Location code:
aci golu
Water conditions: Very hard and alkaline Water temperature: 10-15oC
Disposition: Somewhat aggresive on occasions Community tank?: Never
Spawning Method: Other (see below)Breeding problems: none
Sex ratio: Somewhat female heavyBreeding difficulty: Easy
Sucess: Fairly sucessfulYears Experience: 3
Other Comments: In addition to very hard alkaline water have added 2 teaspoonfuls of aquarium salt to each bucket of water. Plant growth poor, but filament algae do well. Eggs laid on algae, so just remove algae to fresh tank and watch fry emerge. Keep at ambient temperature, no need to heat, seem to hibernate or become inactive in winter, beleived to be necessary for successful breeding. Eat algae but grow best on live food like brine shrimp. Males attractive in breeding colours but do fight.
