Breeding Report: Aphyosemion louessense
Location code: RPC 33
Water conditions: Very soft and acidic, 16-19oC
Spawning Method: Long term (fry appear with adults)
Breeding problems: Skewed sex ratio
Sex ratio: Somewhat female heavy
Breeding difficulty: Easy
Success: Very successful
Other Comments: A. louessense RPC 33 is easy to breed. I took three pairs and put each pair in a ten gallon tank with a thick cover of Giant salvinia and a clump of Java moss. I fed baby brine shrimp, frozen bloodworms, blackworms and a flake food slurry. Changed 70% of the water every two weeks. Filtration in by a box filter with floss and rocks only. Many fry appeared in all three tanks. A very pretty fish! Regards, Monty Lehmann AKA 2003 Hobbyist of the Year Chesapeake Area Killie Club Virginia, USA.
Breeder: Monty Lehmann, USA (AKA) (3 years experience with this species)

Unsuccessful

Breeding Report: Aphyosemion louessense
Location code: Malinga
Water conditions: Moderately soft and acidic, 20-23oC
Spawning Method: Spawning Mops
Sex ratio: Somewhat female heavy
Breeding difficulty: Average
Success: Fairly unsuccessful
Other Comments: Although not prolific egg layers they do give one to five eggs a week, the eggs are susceptible to fungi so need to be kept in water with either meth blue or acroflavin, hatching takes around 20 days and the fry are not hard to rear but need fresh hatched brine shrimp from day one. Growth of youngsters is average for killi's there were no signs of cannibalism that I detected
Breeder: Brian Wilson, Lymington (1 years experience with this species)
