Location code:
ems? Aqualog Picture
Water conditions: Moderately soft and acidic Water temperature: 24-27oC
Disposition: Slightly timid Community tank?: Doubtful, only with VERY calm fish
Spawning Method: Long term (fry appear with adults)Breeding problems:
Poor egg survival
Sex ratio: Roughly equalBreeding difficulty: Average
Sucess: Fairly sucessfulYears Experience: 3
Other Comments: Likes to hide under spawning moss in the tank. Layer of coarse gravel with a lot of spawning moss in the tank. Feed with blood worms to get into breeding condition. 2 males and 4 females in the breeding tank. Eggs laid in the spawning moss as well as the gravel. Hatching time appears to range from 1 to 2 months. Sometimes getting a good hatch of fry in the buckets of water kept after cleaning the tank and gravel. Fry have been left in the tank with parents until about 1.5cm. This was more about giving more space for more fry to hatch than danger from adults. Over 100 fry hatched over 5 month period and still going. Lots of floating plants to cut down light intensity.
