Location code: Bachaquero BBL 01/02 | | Water conditions: Moderately hard and alkaline | Water temperature: 24-27oC | | Disposition: Active, but not aggresive | Community tank?: Doubtful, only with VERY calm fish | | Spawning Method: Peat (or similar) spawning substrate | Breeding problems: Poor egg survival | | Sex ratio: Somewhat male heavy | Breeding difficulty: Average | | Sucess: Very sucessful | Years Experience: 15 | | Other Comments: Successive generations have been shorter lived. Wild fish from the original collection in 01/02 lived for three years. The last batch only lived for three months despite keeping them at lower temperature. Successive generations have also been getting smaller despite feeding live and quality dry foods. | | Date this record created: 10th October 2005 | Breeding date: 7th February 2005 | | Breeder: Richard Cox | Location: Poole Dorset |

Location code: Bachaquero BBL 01/02 | | Water conditions: Moderately soft and acidic | Water temperature: 24-27oC | | Disposition: Slightly timid | Community tank?: Doubtful, only with VERY calm fish | | Spawning Method: Peat (or similar) spawning substrate | Breeding problems: Skewed sex ratio | | Sex ratio: Almost all males | Breeding difficulty: Average | | Sucess: Very sucessful | Years Experience: 15 | | Other Comments: If kept together from the fry stage males will co-exist without any real damage. They must have a tight fitting lid to any tank. No lid no Rachovia pyropunctata! Believe me they can get through the smallest gap. Best kept in a larger tank - 2' in old money - and with plenty of hiding places. I use a big wodge of Java fern Females are somewhat smaller than the males and are best separated when young to ensure they get sufficient food. When up to size can be left with the males. The dominant male will take up a position in the spawning jar and await the female. | | Date this record created: 16th May 2004 | Breeding date: 10th March 2004 | | Breeder: Richard Cox | Location: Poole |
