Location code: 'Isla Raton' RDB 92/22 | | Water conditions: Moderately soft and acidic | Water temperature: 24-27oC | | Disposition: Slightly timid | Community tank?: Never | | Spawning Method: Peat (or similar) spawning substrate | Breeding problems: Poor egg production | | Sex ratio: Roughly equal | Breeding difficulty: Average | | Sucess: Fairly sucessful | Years Experience: 1 | | Other Comments: M. xiphophora is a very beautiful fish. And its not that hard to keep and breed. M. xiphophora can be quite susceptible to attacks by fungus and a good quality of water is therefore important. The easiest way to that is by doing weekly water changes.
The eggs are stored for 7-8 months before hasched. I keep my egs at a temperature at around 23 C. They take BBS from the start and grow quite fast. | | Date this record created: 4th April 2004 | Breeding date: 13th April 2004 | | Breeder: Jesper Thorup SKS | Location: Denmark |
