Location code: Aquarium strain | | Water conditions: Neutral | Water temperature: 24-27oC | | Disposition: Active, but not aggresive | Community tank?: Doubtful, only with VERY calm fish | | Spawning Method: Peat (or similar) spawning substrate | Breeding problems: Poor egg survival | | Sex ratio: Roughly equal | Breeding difficulty: Average | | Sucess: Fairly sucessful | Years Experience: 3 | | Other Comments: further to daves comments on aggresion i found that the wild fish were faily aggresive but subsequent generations have lost this trait i now kee a group of 5 adults 1 male +4 femails in a 31 gallon tank decorated with bogwood java moss and fern at 75 degf and change 10% twice weekly ive also found that egg production dropes dramaticaly in dimmer conditions, with a light over the tank( on for 6 hours per day) in addition to normal room lights egg production has been increased possibly 10 fold .the same problem with egg fertility still remains wether peat, coir or other mediums or even diferent wettnes is ussed , eggs are kept at 78-80 degf for upto 9 months and i have found that sex ratios are more even when the storage medium is kept quite damp (almost wet) and 2 weeks prior to wetting i dampen the eggs even further which increases the hatch and saves further wettings | | Date this record created: 6th October 2005 | Breeding date: 6th October 2005 | | Breeder: glyn | Location: devon |

Location code: Aquarium strain | | Water conditions: Moderately soft and acidic | Water temperature: 20-23oC | | Disposition: Somewhat aggresive on occasions | Community tank?: Never | | Spawning Method: Peat (or similar) spawning substrate | Breeding problems: none | | Sex ratio: | Breeding difficulty: Difficult | | Sucess: Average | Years Experience: | | Other Comments: Need plenty of hiding places as these fish can be agressive. One female killed the other female after a few weeks and then the male killed the last female a few weeks later. In future I will separate them for a rest. Very productive with eggs though over 50% were infertile. I have incubated in peat for 12 weeks or in water for 16 weeks. | | Date this record created: 27th September 2003 | Breeding date: | | Breeder: David Baker | Location: Maidenhead, Berkshire, UK |
