Location code: Luhule River TAN 02-8 | | Water conditions: Moderately soft and acidic | Water temperature: 24-27oC | | Disposition: Active, but not aggresive | Community tank?: Only with species of similar size | | Spawning Method: Peat (or similar) spawning substrate | Breeding problems: Poor fry survival rate | | Sex ratio: Somewhat male heavy | Breeding difficulty: Difficult | | Sucess: Fairly sucessful | Years Experience: | | Other Comments: I have not found these fish to accept a spawning tub. They also don't take to dry foods although I have some surplus young males mixed in with some Ancistrus, poliaki, Neolamplrolgus brevis and Julidochromis transcrtiptus that don't get anything but dry food and they have been alive for months now but looking rather small... Fry are picky eaters and are best raised at low denstites (10 fry per 2L tub) and fed powerderred flake and Liquifry to stimulate natural infusoria as green water and paramecium cultures are deficient. Females go through a difficult stage after maturation were they are prone to stress and need to be conditioned. This fish can be very productive and need a vaired diet. I feed bloodworm, bbs and cyclops and occasionaly live daphnia. Not realy difficult to keep and breed but it needs some attention. | | Date this record created: 1st October 2003 | Breeding date: | | Breeder: Tyrone Genade | Location: South Africa |
