Breeding Report: Aphyosemion poliakiLocation code: Mutungene
Water conditions: Moderately soft and acidic, 16-19oC
Spawning Method: Long term (fry appear with adults)
Sex ratio: Roughly equal
Breeding difficulty: Very easy
Success: Very successful
Other Comments: I have found all of the different poliaki locations I have kept easy to maintain for many generations in natural set-ups, if the water is no warmer than 22. I have had success as low as 17. Temperature is the reason I checked off that they weren't good community fish. In a 75% full 75 litre tank, they will spawn in dense vegetation or in the roots of emersed peace lilies or pothos. It's an underappreciated species - very beautiful in subdued lighting.

Spawning Method: Long term (fry appear with adults)
Sex ratio: Roughly equal

Other Comments: Really nice fish. Likes light. Fry appear with parents if well fed and if the tank is large enough. They will eat most foods offerred. Growth is steady with the fry being sexable after about 2 months.
Breeder: Tyrone Genade, Cape Town, South Africa
Date this record created: 5th February 2003
Breeding Report: Aphyosemion poliakiWater conditions: Moderately soft and acidic, 20-23oC
Spawning Method: Spawning Mops
Sex ratio: Somewhat female heavy
Breeding difficulty: Easy
Success: Fairly unsuccessful
Other Comments: I pick eggs but fry appear among the adults even in small sparsely planted tanks. I would say the male to female ratio is 1:2. Have had several productive old females turn into males!!! One of which has sired many fry. Quite a long lived fish: ~3 yrs. Can be very productive at time and eggs are not sensitive. Enjoys a well lit planted tank.
